Default My purple items

Hello,
I'm quite new to Guild Wars, I've only just entered post searing and I need a bit of advice.

I've picked up 2 purple items but I'm not exactly what being purple does for the item. Does it make them more valuable or something?

Here are my items, please tell me what I should do with them...

Thanks
Josh

the first one is a gear, use a expert salvage to get the rune.

as for color it goes white>blue>purple>gold eh green i guess can go after gold. just shows in order of rarity.

the top item is actually a rune. If you use an expert salvage kit on it, it will create a rune that increases a monks smiting prayers by +1 when you use the rune on a piece of armor.

edit: Fiery beat me to it and fixed type of salvage kit

Nope - just indicates how good the mods are.

If you can't use them, both need to be sold to the merchant.

Expert Salvage kit. If you use a regular salvage kit, you will get common crafting materials

Thanks guys, how much do runes go for? or better, how much would that one go for?
I've found some new purple items since;

What should I do with them?

Don't worry I'm not gonna ask you this every time I find a purple item, heh I just need to make a reference for myself so I know what to merchant, what to keep, what to salvage and what to try to sell to players etc...

Mostly everything you get will go to a merchant of some sorts. Runes (if salvaged using thr EXPERT kit that you can get later on) should be sold to the Rune Trader, and weapons that you don't use go to the merchant or if you have a decent amount of money (to pay for armor and miscelanious things) you can salvage the weapons and other drops to get Materials that you will need later on in the game.

I see, so there's not much point in purple items then... seing as they can actually cost you money to salvage etc.

Oh well, thanks for the advice everybody!

There are good purple items out there...you just have to find them. but for example, you were were playing a mesmer and had a real crappy cane, then the one you found would be decent replacement.

The trick to this game is trying to figure out what mods are blah, which are ok, which are good, and which are great! Most of the time, if they are not great then the are hardly worth trying to sell to others IMO. Same goes for gold items. Some have good/great mods and some are just plain useless.
